Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Are you planning to preserve the existing buildings on site?

Answer: Our intention is to preserve and revitalize the history and cultural heritage of the Cal Neva by thoughtfully blending the old with the new while preserving important components of the main building that includes the historic Circle Bar, Indian Room, casino, and showroom. Several of the existing cabins and wedding chapel are no longer habitable and pose a safety hazard so they will be removed.

Additionally, there are areas in the historic portion of the main building that require much needed

structural repair.

Question: What will happen to the cabins on the site - particularly the Marilyn Monroe cabin?

Answer: Unfortunately the few cabins that remain on the site have been so neglected over the years that they are now structurally unsafe, at risk of catastrophic collapse, create a fire risk, and have environmental contamination. They are in such a state of disrepair that they are past the point of being able to rehabilitate. We plan to replace some of those cabins, but are still in the planning stages of the project. All of our plans at this stage are preliminary.

Question: What will happen with the tunnels underneath the property?

Answer: Previous to our ownership, many of the tunnels had been filled in. We are looking at how we can utilize the remaining tunnels, which are the part that sits underneath the historic lodge, as part of the hotel programming.

Question: Will the new resort be open to the community?

Answer: It has been incredibly heartwarming and fascinating to read the Cal Neva stories and memories so many people have shared with us about their experiences through the years at Cal Neva. We look forward to the new memories to be made! We understand how important the Cal Neva property is to the community and are excited to showcase many spaces for locals to enjoy such as: the Circle Bar, casino, new restaurants, the Showroom, and the Indian Room.

Question: Will there be a workforce housing component to this project?

Answer: We are aware of the critical need for workforce housing in the greater Tahoe region. Our team is meeting with various community leaders and seeking opportunities with other developers to help strategize solutions to workforce housing.

Question: How will this renovation help the water and environmental quality of Lake Tahoe?

Answer: All renovation and new construction on the site are planned to be consistent with the latest in Best Management Practices (BMP) in water quality and stormwater management to further support the environmental quality of the lake and surrounding environment.

Question: What about increased traffic and congestion?

Answer: We acknowledge the importance of using public transportation options available in the area. We plan to incorporate these into our employee and guest interaction so that we can be a part of the solution within the community. We are focused on walkability, e-bikes, local and regional transit, microtransit, and other options. Following the redevelopment, hotel guests will be encouraged to park their cars and utilize public transit or shuttle service options during their stay. We are in the early planning stages and intend to collaborate with transportation organizations to map out a plan to encourage transportation options that are not just single occupant vehicles.

Question: What is the project timeline?

Answer: The overall redevelopment project is still in the preliminary planning stages. We are targeting a grand opening of 2026 to celebrate and honor Cal Neva’s 100th Anniversary with the community.

Question: Is the new property going to be a hotel or condominiums?

Answer: Cal Neva will be a hotel only project with no for sale product.
